Actual Conversation That Just Happened In My Household

Chad: You know what?  Little Caesar's is probably my absolute favorite pizza.

Emily: You are disgusting.

Yeah, that happened.  We live in the city of Chicago.  Lou Malnati's straight up delivers to our apartment and reheated cardboard with "cheese" on it is your favorite pizza? Unacceptable.

I have been discovering that Chad loves disgusting food, but not in a "Taco Bell is delicious" kind of way in a "Taco Bell is actually better than real food kind of way".  He actually has said to me on a previous incident that the Carmel Apple Empanada at Taco Bell is his Favorite Dessert of All Time.  Like, he would rather have that than ANY OTHER dessert.  What.  I don't.  I don't even.  This man has been to Italy and eaten gelato in Italy.

All of this is surprising because he likes good food as well, he loves to cook and go out to actual restaurants.  He isn't one of those people who only eats fast food and refuses to eat anything green.  He just would prefer the terrible food over the tasty food I guess.

I just checked to see if he would like to defend himself.  I was trying to see if he meant to say that he just really likes Little Caesar's and not that it is his FAVORITE pizza.  And he thought for a second proceeded to be like "No, Little Caesar's is just so good there is really no way around it."

This is what true love is, people.

New Years Resolutions for 2014

Here are my resolutions from last year, let's see how I did!

Emily resolves to...
  • Go on four dates per month Chad [Yes!]
  • Have an EeeBeeDee website with an integrated shop [Yes!]
  • Write two blog posts per week [No!]
  • Post 45 comics this year [No!]
  • Read 9 new books [No!]
  • Have 100 listings in Etsy shop [Yes!]
  • Sculpt and cast a resin toy [Yes!]
Overall, pretty okay (better than a 50% success rate).  The ones I failed, I REALLY failed.  I totally gave up on drawing comics and even deleted my comic website!  I may have averaged two blog posts all year!

Here are my new goals!

Emily resolves to...
  • Write one blog posts per week
  • Update name
  • Read 4 new books
  • Update website once per month
  • Get married
  • Do dishes at least every other day
  • Sell all America Girl dolls and accessories and all Disney pins
Trying to be better about updating the blog again.  I think one post a week is more manageable so I'm more likely to actually do it this time.  Also back is reading books but we've lowered it to the extremely sad 4 new books.  If I don't manage that I should probably be banned from libraries or something.  We had some debate over whether or not Chad and I could put "get married" on there.  We won in the end because even though we are definitely going to accomplish it, it is going to take up a huge chunk of our time!  The really big project on here is selling all of my American Girl dolls and Disney pins.  I think it's possible, I sold over 50 things on ebay last month, but I have SO many more things that need to be put up.

Okay one blog post down, at least 51 to go!

The Weirdest Trees

It's that time of year again.  About one in every three cars I saw this afternoon had a Christmas tree strapped to the roof and blow up Santas are starting to take over the roofs of my neighborhood (no one has a yard).

I have yet to put up my own Christmas decorations (Which now include a super adorable Mickey Christmas Village!) but I was talking with my friend Liz and she directed me to the following link:

7' Pre-Lit Upsidedown Gold Glitter Tree - Clear Lights

What on earth is this thing?
Target has a solution for all of your upside down piss yellow Christmas tree needs.  For all those times you were decorating your tree and thinking "If only this tree was more awkward, top heavy and a horrible color, then it would be truly festive." Oh and also it's on sale for the low price of $849.34 what a bargain! So after seeing this I had to explore around the rest of Target.com for more crazy trees.

7.5' Pre-Lit Spruce Tree - Clear Lights

Does the ombre trend really need to extend to trees?
On the side of the upside down yellow tree was this ombre tree.  Well at least I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt by calling it ombre, maybe it's supposed to be a really poorly executed snow effect on a black tree.

4'/5'/6' Pre-Lit Palm Christmas Tree Set - Clear Lights

Tropical festivities
Just in case you want to have a tacky tropical Christmas but don't actually live in Miami.

6' Unlit Canadian Tree - Red/Green/Gold Ornaments

I have inferred from the name of this tree that Canadians are too lazy to decorate their own trees but they have a fear of LEDs so they buy them pre decorated with ornaments, a weird tinsel outline but absolutely no lights.  I would like to point out that this tree is only $45 but also is 6 feet tall.  Canadians know how to drive a bargain.

Red Fantasy Tree

Festive Dr. Suess Time
I guess this could work if you have Whoville themed decorations?

7.5' Pre-Lit Champagne Upside Down Tree - Clear Lights

Not again
Are upside down trees a thing now?  Because I missed it becoming a thing and I don't approve of it being a thing and I would like to take it up with the authorities.

My first ever art show is coming up this Thursday December 5th!  It's at an awesome independent grocery store, Open Produce.  I'll be showing with another artist, Sandra Morrissey.   There will be snacks and stuff so come on by!

I will also have Bean Beasts, plush candies, Grumblecakes, and buttons available for sale!

California Adventures Day One

It's vacation time!  We have been planning a trip to Designer Con for quite a few months but when we originally looked up airfare it was definitely out of our price range, so we were planning on road tripping it.  Then a week or two ago we were planning out how much driving we were going to have to do a day and it was freaking me out so I looked up how much airfare would be and it was $270 round trip.  HELLS YEAH!

Our flight out of O'hare was at 10:30am so we had to wake up pretty early to get to the airport.  So Chad made me breakfast in bed while he finished up washing the dishes so our friends who are feeding our cats won't be disgusted by our filth.

Breakfast in bed and kitty cuddles is a great way to start a vacation
After a 4.5 hour plane ride that mostly consisted of playing Pokemon (I want to be the very best), we waited in a really long line at the car rental place.  Then it was time to go on our first California excursion that you just can't get in Illinois: In-N-Out Burger.

Mmmmmmm burgers
The burgers were super delicious.  Chad thinks mine was less delicious because I didn't get "Animal Style" (Sauce, onions and some other stuff) but I am totes okay with that.  After eating all of the tasty food we decided to check out another awesome thing that California has that Illinois doesn't:

OMFG MOUNTAINS!
ELEVATION!  NOT TOTALLY FLAT!  LEVELS AND STUFF! We drove up to Palmdale to check out some sweet mountain action.  We then drove through the mountains on Angeles Crest Highway to get more up close and personal with the mountain action.

Badass Mountain Sunset
After epic mountain times, it was time to go see something else Illinois doesn't have; Nikki and Laurel!  Laurel was super nice and cooked us all homemade sloppy joe's.  Then we all watched Labyrinth.  Because Labyrinth.  Also David Bowie.

Wednesday is going to be Adventures to San Diego day!

So I'm Super Excited to Take Our Engagement Photos

Chad hates taking pictures.  As a result there aren't many good photos of us.  Even though we had on and off dated somewhere around 4-5 times from the years 2006-2012 these are the only photos I have to show for it:

Exhibit A: (taken at some random OHS Theater rehearsal)
Chad looks thrilled
Exhibit B: (Taken at a sushi dinner for my birthday)
Baby Everyone!
Aaaaaaand that's it. Yup.  The only photos I have documenting the fact that we did date in High School.  Since we have been together this time (the for realsies time) I still don't even have that many pictures of us!  This is the first picture that was taken of us past that sushi photo above:

We had been together already for 7 months!

Gradumacating!
Then after that photo I tried to be more diligent about forcing Chad to take pictures.  This has mainly just generated a small number of selfies of the two of us at various locations:

Selfie at Chad's cousin's wedding
Selfie on a CTA platform

Selfie at Liz's wedding

Duck face selfie
There are more pictures than these ridiculous selfies, we did take a picture at each location of Engagement Tour 2013 and those did make me feel much better about the amount of pictures of us.  But, I'm so excited to have professional awesome photos taken this Wednesday!  We are going to have fancy awesome real pictures of us hanging out in some of our favorite places in the city!

This is our wedding (an engagement shoot photographer): Liz Nelson.  She is awesome and all of you people with impending marriages on the horizon should go check her out.

The summary of this post is: be prepared for the massive smattering of engagement photos I will be putting in your face because excitement!

I Work at My Favorite Place in the City Now!

About a month ago I quit my terrible office job and took a job at my favorite store in Chicago, Rotofugi.  It's a designer toy store and art gallery.  So far, it's a very fun place to work and I'm much happier than I was while working at my real estate office job.  It's just nice to talk to customers who are interested in the things I'm interested in rather than being constantly screamed at.  The other day this kid was having a Labbit themed birthday party and his mom brought the cake in to show us:

Super Cute Labbit Cake!
My new work schedule is only 4 days a week so I'm going to get more time to work on EeeBeeDee stuff!  May is MUNNYMUNTH for Kidrobot, so they are having a custom contest.  I painted this little micro Trikky for practice:

Puppy in a Kitty Suit
You can vote for him in the contest HERE!  All you need to do is "like" Kidrobot on Facebook, then click that link and click the Vote button.  You can vote once per day throughout May.  I'm going to be making a much more elaborate custom for the contest this month.  I'll share pictures once I start working on it!

I'll leave you with this picture of my cat holding my hand because, that shit is adorable.
